Turn off the red light standby button on TV’s, DVD Players and Computers. Can you believe appliances in that mode eat an amount of energy equivalent to between 40 and 70 percent of that which they use when fully switched on.
When its time to replace say a freezer or washing machine, try to ensure it’s an ‘A-Rated’ product. It will use less energy. It may not necessarily be the most expensive either!
If your home is un-insulated you’re probably losing a third of your heat. Lag your loft and water tank and fit tinfoil wrap behind your radiators to reflect heat back into the room.
If your boiler needs replacing, fit a modern and more efficient condensing model, which could reduce annual bills by a fifth. Now, turn down the thermostat by one degree centigrade and you should save £30 a year.
You know that dusty coil at the back of the fridge?, it wastes up to 30 percent of the appliances electricity. Simply wiping it down is a green move.
Cover saucepans and turn the heat down when cooking.
Defrosting the fridge or freezer will help it run more smoothly.
