Good Home Tips - Water
Dripping tap? Fix it as it can waste five litres of water per day. Just renew tap washers as soon as you spot a leak.
Turn off the tap when you clean your teeth – a family of four can save a bathful of water every day.
Take a 5-minute shower instead of a bath and save 50 litres of water every time.
Fit a save-a-flush bag or ‘Hippo’ bag in your loo and save a litre of water with every flush.
Lag tanks and pipes in your loft.
Make sure you know where the mains stop tap is located. Always turn off the water if you are going away.
Use a bowl of water when preparing food to wash vegetables and save enough water for showers.
One less weekly wash in the washing machine saves 5,000 litres of water annually, more than enough for one person's monthly needs.
Collect water in a water butt and use a watering can to water plants not a hose pipe.
